Matcon helps Vale of Evesham School to Install New Sensory Classroom
Published on 08 October 2019
Matcon has been supporting a local Specialist School for Cognition and Learning since 2016 and this year we are proud to announce that £25,000 of funding has been provided towards the installation of a new sensory room.
The ultra-modern classroom has been designed to stimulate visual and interactive learning and includes a magic carpet, interactive whiteboard, bubble tube, light up water table, cloud curtain and a range of wooden and low-tech toys.
Laura Wainwright, Teacher at The Vale of Evesham School, was heavily involved with the installation of the classroom. She said: “Having the new sensory room has had a significant impact on the learning and engagement of our children with complex needs. It has made learning more accessible for a wide range of pupils particularly now we have overhead tracking. Staff can use it with ease due to the high spec equipment. The children achieve targets in a range of ways that they were unable to do before. Children engage more with the activities and it can be accessed by a small group of children rather than individuals. The children are more motivated to learn and show shear enjoyment and excitement when they are in the room. The sensory room was an unusable space previously but now thanks to the generosity of Matcon our sensory room has been transformed.”
Matcon’s Managing Director Stephen Ball handed over the cheque to Laura and said, “We are pleased to have been able to help The Vale of Evesham School improve their Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, which now offers greater expressive communication opportunities to non-verbal youngsters and will in turn make a real difference to the pupils, parents and teachers of the Vale of Evesham School.”
Matcon is owned by the US based IDEX Corporation and our funding was secured from the IDEX Foundation whose mission it is to create value and positively impact the communities in which their employees live and work.
